My College Spring Breaks
2009 - Spent the week reading the Oresteia, waiting for a boy to ask me out for coffee so we could talk about the Oresteia. We have never, ever gone out for coffee. And we only ever talked about the Oresteia formally in class. 2010 - Spent the week with Charlie in Grand Rapids at his grandparents’ house. Went to the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the Urban Institute of Contemporary Arts, and the...

The cat decided Thomas Paine was dirty and started grooming my copy of Common Sense. Paine’s a pussy magnet.

Academic Ecstacy
(not saucy enough for Judicious Hooker) March 23rd I am participating in (chairing?) a panel debate on Socrates’ innocence/guilt based on the charges set out in Plato’s Apology of Socrates. With Sara and Jess. Holla. May 11th I will be participating in (chairing?) this panel again (with Sara, Scott, Nick, and Shane) for the Meeting of Minds undergraduate research conference. As...

Today has sucked ass, but...
VCH congratulated me (and my staff [finally]) on how amazingly Lyceum has done this year, and that it’s the best he’s ever seen it. I added at LEAST half a dozen juicy details to my mental file on my favorite person ever. I look damn good & I’m kicking off date weekend with Charlie tonight in Royal Oak.

Things I am going to do during my gap year:
(in no particular order, and in no way complete) See the Grand Canyon and the redwoods (must hug a redwood, or it doesn’t count). Go to Washington DC, finally. Visit & apply to all the grad schools I’m looking at. Grow a vegetable and herb garden. Stay with (“visit”) Daniel for a little bit in NYC (That cool, Daniel? OK, cool.) Learn ancient Greek. Get into a...

“You want a physicist to speak at your funeral. You want the physicist to talk to...”
– Aaron Freeman “You Want A Physicist To Speak at your Funeral” (source: npr) This is one of the most lovely and comforting things I’ve ever read or heard about death and grieving, and I have been to more funerals than I can remember. (via anachronistique)
